Sharing the News

Updated: Mar 22

Introduction:

Discovering the incredible news of a pregnancy often evokes a whirlwind of emotions. The journey of announcing the news to our friends and family becomes a memory that we will remember forever. Allow me to share you our journey!

Sharing the News

Before we even had the chance to discuss how and when we wanted to tell people, my fiancé's dad coincidentally called. We had only just read the test result, and we were overflowing with excitement. When my fiancé answered, he couldn't contain himself and blurted out the news before I could even open my mouth to intervene. Although I would have waited, his genuine enthusiasm only added to to my joy.

After my fiancé finished on the phone with his dad, I couldn't resist calling my mom. I was torn between wanting to have a creative way to announce the news, and dying of anticipation. My eyes were literally watering I could not contain myself as I called her,  When she answered, she was worried because I had been crying (she just didn't know they were happy tears). She asked me what was wrong, and I switched the camera to reveal the pregnancy test. She started screaming "What? What? No WAY! What?" In that instant I just started shaking and happy crying all over again.

Confirmation:

Although our excitement was through the roof, we decided to wait before sharing the news with the rest of the immediate family until after received confirmation from my doctor. We would wait to tell everybody else until after our first ultrasound. The anticipation during those few days until my doctor appointment felt interminable. Keeping our news a secret just built up the anticipation even greater. The urge to shout "I am going to be a mom!" consumed every fiber of my being. Finally on 1/6/23 the doctors confirmed I was indeed going to be a mommy!

Crafting The Surprise:

I really wanted to have some great elaborate announcement, but I was just so excited and I didn't want to wait. I explored Pinterest for some ideas that I could execute quickly. Success. I contacted my dad, and proposed dinner at his place. He said he would order some pizza and I could pick it up on my way. I picked up a binky and I attached a note to it. At Papa Murphey's, I added an extra mini individual pizza to put the binkie with the note in and paid for it. I picked up my fiancé, and shared the plan with him, and together, we headed to my dad's.

The Big Reveal:

Upon arriving at my dad's house, I found my cousins were all there and everybody was excitedly waiting for the pizza. Entering the kitchen, my dad my dad noticed the extra little box. He asked what it was because he didn't order a mini pizza. I said I had no idea and I handed the receipt to my stepmom feigning ignorance. She said it wasn't on the receipt and maybe it was the sauces. My dad opened the box. My stepmom caught site of the binky and she knew without having to read the note. She let out a kind of shriek-ish exclamation and covered her mouth, unable to contain her excitement. We both waited for my dad to get it. He picked up the note, reading and rereading it. Then finally he chuckled as he comprehended what it was saying. He was going to be a grandpa!

Conclusion:

Sharing our pregnancy news with our parents was a whirlwind of emotions! From the nervous excitement to the overwhelming joy, every moment became a special memory that brought our family closer together.
